Mezi p\u0159edstavitele st\u0159edov\u011bk\u00e9ho cestopisu \u0159ad\u00edme krom\u011b Marca Pola p\u0159edev\u0161\u00edm Abu Abdallaha ibn Batt\u016fta, kter\u00fd pat\u0159il mezi nejv\u00fdznamn\u011bj\u0161\u00ed cestovatele a p\u0159edev\u0161\u00edm prvn\u00ed kartografy (tv\u016frce map). Prvn\u00ed cestopisnou zm\u00ednku o \u010cesku najdeme v d\u00edle kupce Ibrah\u00edm ibn J\u00e1koba, kter\u00fd popisuje kamennou Prahu v dob\u00e1ch Boleslava I.  V obdob\u00ed st\u0159edov\u011bku a renesance vznik\u00e1 cel\u00e1 \u0159ada cestopis\u016f, co\u017e je d\u00e1no t\u00edm, \u017ee mnoho z\u00e1mo\u017en\u00fdch mu\u017e\u016f se vyd\u00e1valo na cesty nap\u0159\u00edklad ke svat\u00e9mu hrobu. Mnoho cestopisn\u00fdch d\u011bl vzniklo tak\u00e9 v \u010desk\u00e9m prost\u0159ed\u00ed (nap\u0159\u00edklad Kry\u0161tof Harant z Pol\u017eic a Bezdru\u017eic a jeho Putov\u00e1n\u00ed). Velk\u00fd rozmach cestov\u00e1n\u00ed nast\u00e1v\u00e1 ve stolet\u00ed devaten\u00e1ct\u00e9m a je to spojeno s v\u00fdrazn\u00fdm pokrokem v oblasti dopravy. Nejedn\u00e1 se jen o nov\u011b vznikaj\u00edc\u00ed vlakovou dopravu, ale tak\u00e9 o v\u00fdrazn\u00fd technick\u00fd pokrok v lodn\u00ed doprav\u011b. V tomto ohledu nem\u016f\u017eeme nevzpomenout p\u0159edev\u0161\u00edm slavn\u00e9ho \u010cesk\u00e9ho cestovatele, kter\u00fdmi byli Emil Holub.  Za\u010d\u00e1tek dvac\u00e1t\u00e9ho stolet\u00ed pak pat\u0159\u00ed Aloisovi Musilovi, kter\u00fd napsal celou \u0159adu cestopisn\u00fdch dobrodru\u017en\u00fdch knih pro ml\u00e1de\u017e. Samoz\u0159ejm\u011b mus\u00edme zm\u00ednit slavn\u00e9 cestovatele Hanzelku a Zikmunda. Jejich d\u00edlo bylo pova\u017eov\u00e1no za kultovn\u00ed.
